2014 PeoPo Summer Internship – Driving Student CJ News（July Camp)

As the blistering heat of summer signals the arrival of the summer vacation, many university students seize the rare opportunity of a long vacation and plan on enriching themselves through enrolment on an internship. Each year in the months of July and August, PTS’s PeoPo Citizen Journalism Platform raises two summer internship programs for college students interested in news production. Open to all students regardless of their major, PeoPo internships are an invitation to experience news from a whole new vantage point. 

Attracting the passionate participation of 40 students from 27 universities, July 2014 marked the eighth consecutive year of PeoPo Summer Internships, where a diverse lineup of lecturers provided students with a rich array of viewpoints to reflect upon. Associate professor at the Department of Communication National Chung Cheng University, Kuang Chung-Shiang (管中祥), reminded students that with today’s rich selection of media channels available, for those interested in news production, independent media channels are a good way to avoid allowing the mass media to stifle one’s creativity: Director Li Hui-Ren (李惠仁) emphasized the importance of analytical thinking in news production. 

The program at this year’s summer internship included personal sharing from lecturers, writing a news anchor’s script, on-the-scene SNG simulation tests and filming practice. With the aim of helping student CJs have a greater impact through their reporting, TKU Mass Communication student Zhao Qiao-Ting (趙巧婷), who attended last year’s internship event and whose reporting won recognition at the 2013 PeoPo Citizen Journalist Awards, returned to share her experiences and impart some useful tips.

炎炎夏日，同學們最愛的暑假來臨，有大學生把握難得的長假，為自己規劃一個充實的假期。公視的PeoPo公民新聞平台，每年暑假的七八月，都會舉辦兩梯次的大專暑期實習營，只要是對新聞製作有興趣的同學，不限科系都可以前來PeoPo實習，學到不一樣的新聞觀點。

2014的七月份，PeoPo大專暑期實習營已經邁入第八年，共有27所學校的40位同學，懷抱著對新聞的熱情前來參加。多元的講師陣容，也提供了同學多面向的思考。例如中正大學傳播學系副教授管中祥就提醒同學，現在媒體管道多元，想製作新聞也可以參考獨立媒體的方式，不要讓自己的想像力被大眾媒體綁死；而紀錄片導演李惠仁則強調，作新聞之前一定要有思辨的能力。

實習營的課程，包括講師分享，撰寫主播稿、SNG現場模擬大考驗與拍攝模擬等練習，也有去年實習同學，就讀淡江大傳的趙巧婷回來開課分享心得，趙巧婷的報導獲得2013年公民新聞獎肯定，她也向學弟妹傳授祕訣，讓學生觀點的公民報導發揮影響力。
