Vitex provides a good night’s sleep!

The Zhuchi branch of Huashan Social Welfare Foundation has found that many vulnerable elderly people living alone suffer from dizziness, headaches, and insomnia. After the auspicious discovery that pillows stuffed with seeds from the Vitex rotundifolia plant help with sleep and relieve headaches, seed artist Huang Li-xin (黃立鑫) and netizen Weng Ji-xiang helped collect a load of the seeds; Zhuchi China Youth Corps then mobilized volunteer grandmothers to fill hand-sewn pouches with the seeds.

Delivered by hand, the fragrant pouches were warmly received by the elderly recipients. Regardless of whether the pouches provide actual relief or just psychological comfort, they will hopefully provide some support to elderly people who are dependent on daily medication for insomnia and various other disorders. It is everyone's wish that this healthy alternative can facilitate the gradual reduction of medication and help elderly people get a much-needed good night’s sleep.

慢蔓香 願好眠
華山基金會竹崎站發現服務的獨居弱勢長者長年受頭昏、頭痛及失眠所苦，在一次機緣下得知植物「蔓荊」種子做成的枕頭，可以幫助睡眠、舒緩頭疼，在種子創作家黃立鑫及網友翁吉詳的幫助下，收集到了部分蔓荊種子。救國團竹崎團委會也動員志工阿嬤，一起手縫、裝填，為獨居弱勢長者準備了舒眠香包。

愛心香包送到長者手中，香氛氣息多受長者喜愛，不論實質效用或心理安慰，為的就是希望讓平日依賴安眠藥物、腦神經藥物的長者們有個心理支持，透過更健康的方式逐漸減少用藥，並夜夜得以好眠。
