Badouzi Book Hall revives old memories of the sea

Hidden in a small alley just off the fishing harbor, “Badouzi Village Culture Museum” was the first cultural space to be established by members of the public in Keelung. Recently, a new book hall was opened on the second floor of the building, providing a space for fishing literature and maritime-related items. With the decline of the fishery industry, the area has seen a continual outflow of young people. Sadly, Badouzi is no longer animated with the sight of old fishermen carrying their boats down to the ocean to eke out a living and most of the nostalgia-rich fishing equipment has been abandoned along the way. Although everyone knew that a transformation in industries would bring about an entirely new paradigm in the working mode of local residents, the resulting vacuum of fishing culture and fading away of local maritime memories has deeply saddened locals. The aim of local residents and the culture museum is to help reconnect young people with the bygone local fishing culture and the identity of their homeland.

八斗子書屋再現舊時海上記憶

隱身漁港巷弄中的「八斗子漁村文物館」，是基隆首座由民眾自費成立的文化工作室，近日更在二樓新增了八斗書屋，一個提供漁民文學、海洋相關書籍為主的閱讀空間。隨著近年來漁業沒落、年輕人口的外流，不僅昔日載著漁民到海裡討生活的漁船和各式器具已日漸荒廢，居民對於漁村文化的認同、海上的記憶也逐漸消逝淡薄。隨著產業型態的轉型，居住模式改變是必經的過程，但如何使年輕一輩重拾海洋的記憶和對家鄉的認同，是文物館希望和當地居民社區共同努力的目標。
