Promoting local folk skills – Sanxia’s unique spinning top prowess

During class at Zhongyuan Elementary School, a man wearing a white vest with "Sanxia Folkskills Spinning Top Club" emblazoned across it can be seen surrounded by a gaggle of children. He is Zeng Guohua (曾國華), a master of the spinning top with over thirty years of experience. Mr. Zeng visits the school every Friday to pass on his childhood memories and skills to this group of young students. He hopes that by sowing seeds in their hearts, they will carry these skills into the future and develop the art to new heights.

Spinning tops provide a fun and healthy activity for all ages. What's more, the average spinning top is cheap and can last for years. In the Holo language, the spinning top is called "gan le," which translates as "willing to be happy." Mr. Zeng's love of spinning tops has gone from childhood memory to interest and on to a refined skill. Today, Mr. Zeng has a mission to pass his skills on to the next generation. He and Sanxia Folk Skills Spinning Top Club hope to pass on the joy of spinning tops to these young students and help popularize its use.

在中園國小社團課時間，一位穿著「三峽民俗技藝定點陀螺」白背心的老師被孩子們包圍著。他是曾國華師傅，接觸陀螺的時間已經有三十餘年，他每週五來這裡開課的任務就是要將他的童年回憶，以及一身技藝帶給這群學生。在他們的心中播下一顆種子，期待他們在未來能繼續將陀螺這項民俗技藝發揚光大。

陀螺是人人都能上手的運動，而且單價不高，還可以打好幾年。陀螺台語叫做「甘樂」，在曾國華心中也有「甘願快樂」的意思。甘樂從一個童年回憶，成為興趣，發展成技藝，也讓他有了傳承的使命，影響曾國華特別深刻，而他跟三峽定點陀螺隊期望藉由在學校推動讓學生體會他們的愛好，也讓陀螺更普及。
