Chishang bookstore promotes local culture

In recent years, the art and culture of Chishang have become well-known at home and abroad. In addition to popular natural attractions that shot to fame through television adverts, Chishang Bookstore in Taitung County has been in business for more than 60 years. From its traditional roots selling stationery and books, the bookstore is now in the hands of third-generation owner, Jian Bo-xiang (簡博襄), who in addition to displaying a diverse range of books from famous authors, also promotes culture and art activities.

Speaking about the bookstore’s future, Jian Bo-xiang says it will remain similar to the past few decades, continuing to play the role of a traditional rural bookstore, providing stationery to students and public servants. Of course, for those wishing to read a book, there is also a fine selection of titles on offer, and there will be no halt to local art and culture activities.

池上近幾年已成為海內外知名的文藝重鎮，除了因廣告知名的自然景點之外，台東縣池上鄉池上書局深耕在地超過六十年，從過去單純販賣文具書籍的傳統書店，在第三代經營者簡博襄接手後，除了引進各界名人選書在店內展示，更將書店轉變為推動池上藝文活動的推手。

談起書局往後在池上的角色，簡博襄認為還是會與過去幾十年來相同，繼續扮演著一個鄉村間傳統書局應該要有的腳色，為學生、公務人員等有需要的人提供文具用品，想看書時來這裡也能看到一些書，不會讓整個地區的藝文活動停擺。
