The exotic town of Longgang
Traveling through the Longgang area of Zhongli, you will discover a variety of exotic Yunnan-style dishes hidden in Zhongli’s Zhongzhen Market. The story of how this Yunnan-Burmese culture came to take hold in the area is one of struggle and hardship. During the Chinese Civil War fought between the Kuomintang-led government and the Communist Party of China, an army squadron unwilling to surrender to the Communist Party moved to the border of Burma, Laos, and Thailand. In the 1950s, thanks to the assistance of the United Nations, these lone soldiers and their dependants were withdrawn to Taiwan and settled in the Longgang area, contributing to Longgang's unique culture.
The government is actively promoting local culture through events such as the Longgang Rice Noodle Festival held in April each year and Zhongzhen New Village Cultural Park, which will be completed this year. The goal of promoting local culture is to ensure that the efforts of those gone before is not be lost in the sands of time.
