Expressing gratitude for hosting Japanese Ayumi and Hinata
I am very grateful to the China Economic Research Institute for helping me arrange to receive two Japanese foreign students, Ayumi and Hinata, who love nature. I have been to their hometown of Hakone and Kanagawa, where the Kamakura Great Buddha is located.
Influenced by her parents who studied mechanics, Ayumi studied in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Tokyo. Have studied Chinese for one year. During her holidays, she participated in various seminars organized by the organization that organized this exchange event, preferring indoors. On the other hand, Hinata was inspired by a children's song about space in elementary school and became interested in astronomy. Interested, she is majoring in earth science and physics at Ibaraki University. Hinata, lives in the dormitory and has her own refrigerator and the habit of cooking and makinf tea. On holidays, she likes to go to nature alone to photograph dragonflies and other natural materials, and participate in the school's hot earth club activities. . They said that the university does not allow food to be brought into the classroom to eat while attending class.
Eating fresh ingredients for three meals is the best way to understand the nature of Taiwan. I tried my best to choose ingredients that they have never seen or eaten in Japan. Not only have Japanese students never eaten silky chicken, but they have also never seen or eaten sweet potato leaves. Sweet potato leaves are abundant in Taiwan now. In the past, pig farmers would boil sweet potato leaves and feed them to the pigs. The pigs would grow strong. Recommend to eat more of them.
I was really happy that the two of them had great appetites. They said it was delicious and ate almost all of it. They said, "It turns out, fresh ingredients are delicious as long as only add salt and oil. They only use clay pots to cook rice in Japan. This time they saw Taiwanese people using Japanese clay pots to cook rice, vegetables, and soup. It is not only energy-saving but also delicious, and they also cook it when they go home for Mom and dad to eat.”
3/22 Dinner: Taiwanese No. 9 rice + aboriginal millet, Ginger's own sun-dried rice, natural farming Tainan Indica 18 original cake and stir-fried vegetables
After dinner, help wash dishes and rice ~ Kaohsiung 147 brown rice, time management ~ spend 10 minutes before going to bed to cook tomorrow's breakfast
Get up at 6 o'clock for breakfast, breakfast on 3/23, brown rice milk (traditionally, in the era when there was no milk powder, many children were raised by drinking rice milk), purple yam brown rice porridge, Yilan rice sauce and ginger pickled kohlrabi, sweet potato leaves, bitter tea Fried local eggs, sun-dried shredded radish, Tainan sesame sauce mixed with ugly beans
After breakfast, I helped wash the dishes. The vegetable cloth used was naturally made from the aging of the summer vegetable loofah.
Growing up in the city, they had never been to a traditional market in Japan. It was their first time in Taiwan to pay, buy vegetables, select by hand (oranges with dark skin are more delicious), and keep accounts. The vegetable seller was 70 to 80 years old. The aunts and uncles were very happy to see foreign young people coming to the market. The petite baby faces were thought to be high school students. The aunt gave them mulberries to eat. The total shopping cost for three meals a week including bento was NT 1,620 yuan, about 7,688 yen. Buy by yourself. and cook by yourself, can not only eat better and healthier ingredients, but also save more money.
Supplement: Inflation continues in Japan and Taiwan. On March 25, Japanese news reported that olive oil prices have increased by more than 60% due to continued drought in European production areas.
The fresh ingredients they bought were used to make lunch together. The Japanese students fried pork liver with their own fried lard, jicama and other vegetables, and dried kidney beans and black bone chicken soup.
After lunch~Sensory evaluation of rice, indica rice, japonica rice, rice in Japan is stickier than in Taiwan
Let’s make delicious Tainan Indica 18 sweet potato pancakes and Tainan Indica 18 red bean cake together

Hope Square Farmers Market (Exit 6 of the Shandao Temple MRT, Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 18:00, pesticide-free farmers’ specialties from different counties and cities every week), it was the first time to eat Taiwanese lotus root and dates, and also A farmer explained the nutrition of brown rice. Japanese agricultural products with rich nature are also very delicious. Ayumi and Hiyo can visit more Japanese farmers' markets.
Paddy fields have ecological value and can produce food/provide biological habitats/conservate groundwater/regulate climate. It is important to eat more good local rice, vegetables and fruits.

The organizer said that the host families regard the foreign students as their own family members. Because they are really great, so here is a reminder:
1. Go to bed early and get up early for good health. Don’t stay up late.
2. Cook more healthy food by yourself
3. Leave the room to take a shower and turn off the light
4. Wash the leftover medicine on the spoon after eating it. After washing the dishes, clean the sink
I have received many blessings from Japan, and I have gained a healthy and rich life. I am really happy to have the opportunity to receive Japanese foreign students and tell them about the influence of these Japanese people on Taiwan, and sincerely express my gratitude. Ayumi and Hinata said that they would share my gratitude stories with more Japanese people after returning to Japan. I am really happy that more people are healthier and hope that through exchanges, a new rice culture can be created.
