If you’d given birth to her…: Mrs Wang’s story of a special child

27-year-old Hui-xin is a multi-impaired child, not only suffering with a series of brain injuries, but also with congenital defects in almost every organ and limb in her body. The birth of Hui-xin came as a huge shock to her mother Zhong Su-ming and the rest of the family. Hui-xin’s father, however, quickly accepted the situation, believing that everything is a blessing from God.

Mrs Wang was formerly forced to kneel before her family elders and agree to dispense of the child so as not to bring misfortune on the family name. Although she never consented, in her desperation the thought of committing suicide did pass through her mind. Fortunately, while teetering at the edge of a precipice in life, a voice spoke to her and Mrs Wang became firm in her resolution to walk boldly into an unforeseeable future.

Today, after years of exhaustive training and perseverance, Hui-xin has fostered the voice of an angel. Mrs Wang has made visits far and wide to promote the wonder of Hui-xin’s angelic voice, and each year speaks to over 180 audiences both home and abroad; she has also released three related books, telling the touching story of a family unwilling to give up. In 2002, the Parents’ Association for Persons with Intellectual Disability awarded Mrs Wang the “First Family Award”. Her 16 years of continued support and the running of baby classes at the Association summer camp has won the blessings of special-needs families from all over the globe.

27歲的蕙欣是一個多重障礙的孩子，不但嚴重腦傷，從頭到腳，幾乎所有肢體器官都有先天性殘缺。蕙欣的出生對母親鍾素明與家族是晴天霹靂，蕙欣的父親卻很快接受事實，相當篤定凡事都有上天的美意。人稱汪媽媽的鍾素明，曾經被要求在長輩面前下跪，同意將自己的孩子送走，才不會拖垮家庭的未來。她雖然沒有答應，但走投無路之下卻有結束生命的念頭。

然而，正當母女倆危在旦夕，一個聲音喚回她們的生命，讓汪媽媽決定堅定走向無法預知的未來。如今，經過辛苦的栽培與持之以恆的學習，蕙欣成為一位天使歌手，隨著汪媽媽到各地探訪、獻唱，汪媽媽每年平均有180場海內外演講，分享一家不放棄的故事，並出版三本相關書籍。汪家不僅於2002年榮獲智障者家長總會頒發的「台灣第一家庭獎」，且持續透過暑期營會及創立了16年的寶貝班，成為海內外眾多特殊兒家庭的祝福。
