Preserving Film Heritage: Try Shoot+ Guides Citizen Journalists Through Restoration Process
In an era driven by AI, a dedicated group quietly works to protect Taiwan's cultural memories. For the final Try Shoot+ event of 2024, PeoPo citizen journalists ventured into Tainan National University of the Arts (TNNUA) to explore the intricate world of film restoration.
At TNNUA’s Multi-Media Center, the team observed every stage of film preservation—from rescue and cataloging to cleaning, digitization, and digital restoration. The center, responding to the community’s needs, is committed to saving Taiwan’s audiovisual heritage and encourages the public not to discard tapes. With the magnetic tape expiry looming in 2025 and digital risks growing, the hope is that Taiwan will rally to preserve original film copies, valuing the rich history these recordings hold for future generations.
