Tsou warrior camp – Taipei kids come for adventure

The old Tsou tribal village of Dabang is this year’s base for the Dabang eco-experience camp. All of the participating teachers and students must live together for four days and three nights in a traditional Tsou family home, where they sleep on bamboo mats alongside animal hides and bones, learning how their ancestors cooked, hunted, and made bows and arrows. Zhang Su-Qing (張素卿), from the Taipei company Saccacapital (四也出版公司) – the person responsible for leading this group of Taipei children at this event – hopes that studying a different culture will widen the horizons of these city kids. 

With over a thousand indigenous Tsou people living permanently in Alishan’s Dabang, it has the highest tribal population of any Tsou village. The school district of Dabang Elementary School includes the two large tribal groups of Dabang and Tfuya and is a center of traditional Tsou culture.

With ninety-five students, the school is Chiayi County’s biggest elementary school in the mountainous areas. Ninety-five percent of children at the school are indigenous, and nine of the teachers at the school (including the school principle) are indigenous. Ninety-six per cent of community residents are from the Tsou tribe, and the two large tribal groups still maintain a system of traditional elders. Therefore, Dabang Elementary School bears the important responsibility of continuing the traditional tribal culture of the Tsou people.

鄒族勇士營 台北囝仔來冒險 影音

鄒族「伊斯基雅納(達邦)」舊部落，是今年達邦國小生態體驗營的基地，所有參與活動的師生，必須集中在鄒族傳統家屋，和竹床、獸皮、獸骨共同生活四天三夜，學習先人野炊、狩獵、原始弓箭的製作方式，由台北四也出版公司負責人張素卿帶領的一群孩子也參與這一次的體驗，他們期盼透過異文化的學習，增廣城市孩子的視野。

阿里山鄉達邦村是鄒族人口最多的部落，目前有一千餘人定居，達邦國小學區則涵蓋達邦社與特富野兩大社，是鄒族傳統文化的重鎮。

目前全校有95名學童，是嘉義縣山區最大的小學，其中約有百分之九十五為原住民學生，校內教師(含校長)有9人為原住民籍。社區居民有九成六為鄒族原住民，目前兩大社仍維持有傳統的長老制度，因此，達邦國小也負有鄒族文化傳承非常重要的責任。
