Supplementary tutoring classes for Minxiong’s vulnerable

Over the last five years, the Bread of Life Christian Church (靈糧堂) has been providing supplementary tutoring classes to the vulnerable at a number of places in Minxiong Township, including Dongrong Elementary School (東榮國小), Hsing Chung Elementary School (興中國小), and Jin Shijie (金世界) – an area affected by the typhoon Morakot disaster. Elementary students who began taking the classes five years ago are already entering junior high school and now repaying the kindness by leading junior students in games and dance activities, through which they are learning important people skills. Volunteer students from various universities including National Chiayi University (嘉義大學), National Chung Cheng University (中正大學), and WuFeng University (吳鳳科大) have also been assisting in accompanying vulnerable families, providing supplementary tutoring classes, and helping with character education.

Those attending the supplementary tutoring classes are from economically disadvantaged families, low-income households, single-parents families, living with and being raised by a grandparent or from families with foreign spouses. Bread of Life Christian Church pastor and his wife hope that more college students and more businesses as well as the general public will respond by lending a helping hand, providing better educational resources and fostering stronger character in the next generation of children in rural areas.

民雄弱勢課輔班

嘉義民雄靈糧堂，開設民雄地區包括民雄東榮國小、興中國小、金世界(八八風災)地區的弱勢課輔班已經五年了。五年前在課輔班的小學生，現在已經升上國中了，現在，他們以回饋的心，參加課輔班，帶小弟弟和小妹妹們，玩遊戲，帶舞蹈、從中學習人與人之間的相處之道。包括嘉義大學、中正大學、吳鳳科大等學校的學生志工，也在此陪伴弱勢家庭的國中小學生，協助課業輔導，與品格教育。

課輔班成員都來自經濟弱勢，單親、隔代教養、中低收入戶，或是外籍配偶的孩子。民雄靈糧堂的牧師及師母希望有更多大學生一起來協助，也希望更多的企業及社會大眾嚮應 ，讓偏鄉的下一代有更好的品格及教育資源。
