From Vegetables to Painting: Ma-Tsu Artist Zeng Liang-mei

After selling vegetables at Yunlin Fruit and Vegetable Market for over 10 years, a few years ago Zeng Liang-mei’s artistic talent was discovered by Yunlin County Councilor Liao Ching-hsiang (廖清祥), opening up a new period in her life as a professional glove puppeteer (Budaixi) and Ma-Tsu painter. Recently, she has used her distinctive style and charm to create a string of Ma-Tsu paintings on various mediums including canvas and mahogany wood, winning the unanimous praise of local cultural workers.

In the past, Zeng Liang-mei’s subject matter centered around the stories of local Taiwanese glove puppeteer Master Chong Jen-pi (鍾任壁) and it wasn’t until after accepting a position at Chao-Tian Temple (Beigang Matsu) that she began dipping into religious themes. In addition to her series of Ma-Tsu paintings, Zeng Liang-mei’s portrait and landscape works have also won high reviews.

菜販「媽祖」畫家曾良美 影音

曾經在雲林西螺果菜市場賣菜十幾年的曾良美，幾年前被雲林縣議員廖清祥發掘她的藝術天份之後，開啟了她的創作生涯，成為一位專業的布袋戲偶與媽祖畫家。最近她更善用畫布、桃花心木等各種素材，畫了一系列的媽祖畫像，其畫風、構圖與神韻別具特色，贏得當地文史工作者一致讚譽。

曾良美早期作品大都以當地布袋戲大師鍾任壁等人的故事為題材，直到受邀擔任北港朝天宮媽祖故事館駐館藝術家之後，才涉獵宗教主題。除了媽祖系列創作，曾良美的風景寫真造詣也博得極高的評價。
