Shadow Legend Troupe - recreating the brilliance of shadow puppetry

The traditional art of shadow puppetry is fundamental to Taiwanese culture. The founding of Shadow Legend Troupe (影子傳奇劇團) has made a significant contribution to shadow puppetry in Taiwan, creating many new opportunities for younger generations to engage with traditional culture. What's more, the troupe has recently integrated musical dramas to bring the public a vibrant fusion of old and new cultures. 

In the past, everything from shadow puppetry and ordinary puppetry to Taiwanese opera all used the Taiwanese Holo language, so not many individuals from younger generations, let alone young children, have ever seen a shadow puppetry play. Today, with so few opportunities to watch shadow puppetry, the Shadow Legend Troupe insists that wherever there is an invitation to perform, it is happy to cooperate. The troupe hopes that through untiring devotion and continual performances, shadow puppetry will be passed on to future generations.

皮影戲為台灣非常重要的傳統藝術之一，影子傳奇劇團創立以來對皮影戲的貢獻與傳承，讓年輕一代與傳統文化有了新的契機，加上近日與音樂劇的結合，也讓大家看到新舊文化合作所蹦出的火花。

早期的不管是皮影戲還是傀儡戲、布袋戲、歌仔戲，都是用台語，許多年輕人可能都沒有看過皮影戲，更何況現在的小朋友。所以現在要看到皮影戲的機會真的很少，於是影子傳奇劇團秉持著只要有機會能夠演出，劇團都很樂意配合。這樣的付出與表演，無非就是希望皮影戲能夠傳承下去。
