Giant of the rivers - The future of the green iguana

Green iguanas have now spread to almost everywhere in southern Taiwan. In recent years, many internet celebrities have featured the green iguana as a theme, which has created a lot of buzz. With the rise in internet popularity, a trend of people catching these pesky lizards has developed.

Aside from the consumption of crops, which at most causes panic among the public, the immediate harm caused by the green iguana to humans is not significant. However, given that there may be many unknown parasites and diseases hidden in the green iguana, which could threaten Taiwan’s ecological balance in the future, it is crucial that we continue to catch and study them more.

河畔巨獸 綠鬣蜥的未來

綠鬣蜥的族群幾乎遍佈整個南台灣，近幾年更是有不少網紅以綠鬣蜥作為題材引起不少話題。隨著網路聲量上漲，也掀起民眾自行捕捉的風潮。

綠鬣蜥對人類所造成的立即性危害其實並不大，除了食用農作物之外，最多就是造成民眾恐慌，但綠鬣蜥身上可能還隱藏著許多未知的寄生蟲或疾病，未來可能對生態造成威脅，目前還需要持續捕捉並進行研究。
