Using "protection bottles" to save land crabs from cars

Land crabs live on land, and people living near Hongshulin MRT station in Tamshui District often see land crabs wandering on the roads and sidewalks. However, a high density of cars and urban buildings has destroyed crab habitats and caused many crabs to die on the streets.

Lin Yu-hui from The Society of Wilderness began to work on land crab conservation by establishing hotspots of land crab concentrations as information for future conservation policy planning. He then placed "crab protection bottles" as temporary shelters near Hongshulin MRT station. Through ecological conservation lectures, Lin Yu-hui hopes to educate the public on the importance of land crabs to the entire ecosystem and, through the participation of more volunteers, foster coexistence between humans and the environment.

護蟹瓶守護陸蟹 免於被車輾壓的命運

陸蟹生活在陸地上，居住在淡水區紅樹林捷運站附近的民眾都可以看到陸蟹遊走在馬路、人行道上，但正因為有過多的車輛與高密度的城市建築，導致時常發生陸蟹被車輛輾過，或者是陸蟹棲地被破壞的事件。

荒野保護協會的林育輝便開始致力於保育陸蟹，建立陸蟹常出沒的熱點作為未來保育政策規劃的資料、於捷運紅樹林站附近放置「護蟹瓶」當作臨時的庇護所。並透過生態保育講座使民眾建立對於陸蟹和整個生態系的認知，以及重視人類與環境共存的重要性，未來也會繼續積極招募護蟹志工，讓每一隻陸蟹都能平安過馬路。
