PeoPo Try Shoot+ in Changhua – Hushuikeng’s stone steps bridge generational diversity
Baiguo Mountain in Yuanlin, Changhua, serves as Yuanlin's backyard. It is known for the cultivation of a variety of fruits and is especially famous for its preserved fruits. This latest Try Shoot+ event in Changhua brought citizen journalists to Baiguo Mountain, leading them into the northern Hushuikeng community to experience the local stone paths and cultural charm.
Hushuikeng is an ancient village that existed as early as 1756. In order to avoid flooding, the residents built their homes on the mountainside and used local cobblestones to build stone steps. Hushuikeng has a total of 78 traditional U-shaped courtyard homes, each connected by two to three stone stairways. With hundreds of stone steps throughout the community, Hushuikeng is an ideal spot for travelers to explore and experience the early lifestyles of its inhabitants.
Walking up these stone steps, flanked by cherry trees, Hushuikeng has also become a famous spot for cherry blossom viewing. It offers a blend of culture, scenic beauty, and stone steps brimming with bygone times and stories. Citizen journalists visiting Baiguo Mountain in Yuanlin took a leisurely stroll around the community and had a wonderfully enriching experience climbing the stone steps and visiting the old houses.

PeoPo Try拍+彰化場 湖水坑石階串連生活百態
彰化員林的百果山是員林的後花園,種植許多水果,更以蜜餞聞名。這次Try拍+彰化場活動就是要帶公民記者來到百果山,走進北段的湖水坑社區,認識當地石階步道的人文風情。
湖水坑是早在1756年就有的古庄,為了避免河道水淹,居民會往山上蓋房子,利用當地的鵝卵石打造石階。湖水坑總共有78座的三合院,每一座三合院都有二至三條的石階,整個社區加起來有上百條,非常適合旅人來探索,感受居民早年的生活方式。
沿著石階往上走,兩旁種植著櫻花樹,湖水坑現在更成為著名的賞櫻勝地。有人文、有美景,更有成滿歲月與故事的石階。公民記者來到員林百果山,帶著悠閒的腳步,走進湖水坑社區,踏石階、訪古厝,每個人都有滿滿的收穫。
