Fishermen fight to protect their rights from Taipower’s coal unloading pier

 Fishermen are vehemently protesting against Taipower’s project to build a pier for unloading coal in Linkou, saying that the project will seriously affect fishing grounds near the coast, and threaten their livelihoods. On the morning of the 6th October, a rescue committee formed by Tamshui and Taoyuan Fishermen's Associations brought a 600-strong group of fishermen who congregated outside Taipower’s offices chanting, “Taipower tyrant” and calling for the immediate suspension of building works.

Protesting fishermen expressed that the compensation package put forward by Taipower in comparison to the fishermen’s own demands had too great a disparity and as such was unacceptable. The fishermen laid out three demands:

1. Immediately stop all building work until a common consensus has been reached on a compensation package;
2. Taipower must accept the fishermen’s compensation plan;
3. Set up a foundation to protect the local ecology.

It is hoped that the Fisheries  Agency will step in for arbitration ensuring the benefits and rights of both sides  are fairly heard.

台電蓋卸煤碼頭，漁民抗爭護漁權。

台灣電力公司計畫在林口火力發電廠興建卸煤碼頭，漁民認為將嚴重影響附近海岸的漁場，漁民捕魚的權益也會受到影響，新北市淡水區漁會及桃園區漁會的船主自救會，六日上午號召船主六百多人，群聚台電總公司高喊「台電鴨霸」，要求台電立即停工。

抗議的漁民表示，台電提出的補償金額與漁民的估算差距太大，漁民提出了三大訴求:
1.要求台電立即停工，取得補償共識後再行復工；
2. 必須依照漁民方案補償；
3. 每年提撥復育放流回饋。

未來也希望能夠交由漁業署來仲裁，讓雙方的權益都有合理保障。
