Hot spring law dispute – ‘No government instruction’ complain Wulai proprietors
Wulai District in New Taipei City, located within the water source protection zone above Feitsui Reservoir (翡翠水庫) , is a wonderful recreational area; however, within the area, there are no ‘legal’ hot springs. Should the government’s amendment of the Hot Spring Act be passed on July 2, hot-spring proprietors in the area will be liable to fines, adversely affecting the tourism and hot-spring industry of the area. Although the Hot Spring Act was passed close to ten years ago, there has been no positive guidance or clear direction from the authorities in aiding local hot-spring proprietors obtain legal status – this lack of clarity has become a source of confusion and worry for visitors to this beautiful area.
