Flower-drum dreams – 5th Yunlin County Flower-Drum Art Festival

The 5th Yunlin County Flower-Drum Art Festival got underway on June 16, 2013 at Mamingshan Zhengan Temple (馬鳴山鎮安宮登場). The day was jam-packed with a whole host of fun entertainment including a flower-drum competition and exciting performances from the Electric-Techno Neon Gods (電音三太子) and the Dondon Dance Group (咚咚舞蹈團), bringing a contemporary touch to the traditional flower-drum festival. More traditional performances included the energetic and lively Golden Flower-Drum Troupe (黃金花鼓隊), a group of elderly women with a joint age of over 1000 years, who swayed elegantly to the sound of the drums, showing no sign of ageing.

Baozhong Township (褒忠鄉) in Yunlin County is the smallest and least populated of the twenty-one townships in the county. However, thanks to the blossoming of flower-drum culture, it has now become a hotbed of culture and arts.

At present, flower-drum culture has spread to nine of the townships, with a total of thirteen flower-drum dance troupes; a number of junior high schools and four elementary schools have also formed troupes, each displaying its own unique dance steps and characteristics – the troupes have received numerous invitations to perform all over the island. The flower-drum heritage of the area seems to have reignited local people’s vitality and passion for the simple village way of life.

五分車的花鼓夢-側記第五屆褒忠鄉花鼓文化節

2013雲林縣第五屆褒忠花鼓文化節16日在馬鳴山鎮安宮登場，有精彩的花鼓競藝、電音三太子與咚咚舞蹈團等突破傳統的花鼓表演，團員年齡加總超過千歲的土庫「黃金花鼓隊」，阿嬤們賣力的搖著屁股，搖曳生姿、活力十足。褒忠鄉是雲林縣二十個鄉鎮市中，人口、面積都最小的一個鄉鎮，但卻能一躍成為雲林縣的文化大鄉，都是因為花鼓，花鼓陣已經成為褒忠的文化特色。至今鄉內九村共13隊花鼓隊，鄉內的國中和4個國小也由小朋友組成花鼓隊，每個隊伍各有各的花步，也各有特色，並常受邀到全省各地表演。而「花鼓陣」的傳承，跳出了褒忠人對於純樸農村生命力的喜悅堅持。
