Self-Cooking Citizens” campaign attracts both praise and criticism

On September 15, with the aim of asserting the people’s right to use public spaces, a group of netizens launched “Self-Cooking Citizens” in Taipei Railway Station, encouraging netizen friends to converge on the chessboard in the main lobby to “eat, drink and lie down”.

At its height, the activity attracted an estimated 300 people, including rail commuters, foreign workers, immigrants, the media, and staff from “Legend of the Taiwanese Railroad” as well as various other people. According to the activity’s official webpage, the method employed by activists at the activity attracted a broad mix of opinions, from praise to opposition.
