Sanhe Community creates environmental education paradise
With a focus on low-impact development, Sanhe Community in Taoyuan’s Longtan District uses eco-friendly building methods for retaining walls. In this simple rural Hakka community, you won’t see any of the usual cement-based landscaped structures, but instead a rich natural environment. With eco-friendliness a prerequisite to the community’s building plans, Sanhe has made the best use of local resources and forged its own unique development path ahead.
In 2012, Sanhe Community won the Community Work Award of Excellence from the Ministry of Interior, and in 2014, the Environmental Education Award of Excellence from Taoyuan County Government. An important driving force behind the community’s success is Li Li-Zhen (李麗珍), Director of Sanhe Community Development Association.
After taking over as community director in 2008, she completely reorganized the previously underperforming community development association, establishing a membership system to foster a culture of responsibility and bring local residents together.
