Health pack ensures a warm(hearted) summer for homeless

As summer approaches, there is not only an increased risk of sunburn due to Taiwan’s scorching heat but also a sharp rise in mosquitoes, which poses serious health risks. Half of all those living on the fringe of society – homeless, low and below average income families – must make do with an unsheltered living environment in which long-term exposure to the blazing sun is the norm. In addition to the adverse effects of breathing in polluted air, they also face an increased risk of developing skin cancer or insect-related skin infections. Recently, the Pingan branch of Renan Social Welfare Foundation (人安基金會) launched a summer health pack initiative.

The compact health pack is a wonderful gesture of love and goodwill from branch director Luo and the countless volunteers. With an array of useful items including a hat, cleaning products, body wash, shampoo etc., it will hopefully help improve the health of recipients during these hot summer days. Perhaps we may not understand the hardships endured by those living on the fringes of society, but through our empathy for those less well off we can undoubtedly improve the life of others. With a little bit more care and help for each other, the world would be a much better place for all.

暖心夏日 健康包助街友度炎夏

隨著夏日的逼近，台灣不僅日曬漸強，蚊蟲肆虐的情況也隨之加劇，約有五成的寒士(遊民或中低收入戶、低收入戶等弱勢民眾)生活環境無遮蔽空間，須長期曝曬於大太陽之下，除了容易受空氣汙染影響之外，更可能罹患皮膚癌或受病蟲感染。近期人安基金會在萬華的平安站，就發起夏日健康包發放的活動，小小的束口袋裡面，裝載的是羅站長和志工們對寒士的滿心關愛，包括帽子、清潔用品、沐浴乳、洗髮乳等，希望能藉此改善他們在炎炎夏日中的生活衛生。也許寒士們的辛苦你我無法體會，但是你我有同理心就能讓他們改變，多一點的關心和多一點的幫助，他們的生活能夠因此而不同。
