Hand-painted movie posters stand as a testament to changed days
Through the years, artist Xie Lin-shan (謝森山) has used his masterful skill to paint countless exquisite movie posters using just five color pigments - red, yellow, blue, black, and white. Lin’s hand-painted movie posters have a profound charm and delicateness unrivaled in printed posters.
Recalling the scene from over thirty years ago, Lin says the streets were lined with traditional movie theaters and he was extremely busy, painting for seven such theatres. However, one by one traditional theaters have been swept away in the tide of technological development and transformed into modern cinemas with only Zhongyuan traditional theater remaining.
Although today’s computer technology is fast and accurate, the exquisiteness and grandeur expressed by the master painter are irreplaceable. As this retro feel gradually vanishes in the sands of time, we will no doubt deeply cherish such nostalgic memories in an overtly technological age.
