Rehabilitated raptors released to a new life soaring the skies

A crested serpent eagle spreads its wings and flies back to its familiar habitat in the ecologically diverse mountains of Taiwan. In this season, there are many types of raptors currently in transit through Taiwan, the majority of which sustain injuries caused by human factors. The Raptor Research Group of Taiwan (RRGT) recently held the 2nd Raptor Release Event at Taipei’s Jiuzhuang Elementary School, where formerly injured birds were released back into the wild following treatment and rehabilitation.

This year's event incorporated a documentary film festival along with various activities aimed at increasing the public's understanding of raptors and teaching people how to live in harmony with these beautiful birds of prey. Though raptors are an important ecological indicator in Taiwan, most people know very little about them. The Raptor Research Group of Taiwan hopes that through this activity, people will start paying more attention to ecological conservation in metropolitan areas.

大冠鷲揮動翅膀，飛回熟悉的山林，台灣的生態多樣，目前原生與季節過境的猛禽種類繁多，其受傷原因多半受人為因素影響。台灣猛禽研究會在台北市舊莊國小舉行第二屆猛禽野放活動，讓受傷的野生禽鳥，經過完整的治療後，重回大自然。

有別於去年，今年活動新增了紀錄片影展，搭配闖關活動，增加民眾對於猛禽的認識，也透過活動，學習如何與野生禽鳥和平共處。猛禽是台灣重要的生態指標，大部分民眾對他們的認識卻十分有限，猛禽會也期盼透過此次活動，讓民眾能更加關注都會區的生態保育。
