Gaoyuan community promotes the natural farming of mugwort

The wafting fragrance of mugwort in the community of Gaoyuan, Longtan, is typical of Hakka settlements. After the traditional tea crop lost its competitiveness, the community director Huang Yu-qin (黃玉琴) ushered everyone to plant mugwort, pushing it to the forefront of community enterprises.

Mugwort, a versatile plant that has long been recorded in the Compendium of Materia Medica  (本草綱目), is known as the green diamond of the herb world. Gaoyuan aims to transform DIY mugwort activities and short trips into a distinguishing local characteristic. The community hopes it can move in the direction of a social enterprise and give back to the community, developing mugwort into a thriving local enterprise.
