Taking a Peek into The World of Zoo Attendants
Inside the reptile house at Taipei City Zoo in Muzha, you’ll find around 1000 animals including snakes, lizards, tortoises, frogs and alligators. Every day around 9 in the morning the zoo attendants are busy cleaning the area and preparing to feed the animals. It’s not until 2 in the afternoon however that the animals get their first feed. Aside from the skill of looking after the animals, zoo attendants are also required to possess a wide range of abilities, from carpentry, to good physical strength and the ability to console the animals-in short be a jack-of-all-trades. So the next time you have the opportunity to visit Taipei Zoo’s reptile house, take a different attitude to appreciate the place and I’m sure you’ll find even more amazing and wonderful things.

台北市木柵動物園的爬蟲館內,蛇、蜥蜴、烏龜、青蛙、鱷魚加一加大概有一千多隻,每天早上九點,動物管理員會忙著清潔展區,或進行活體餵食。下午兩點,動物才會開始吃正餐。動物管理員除了養動物之外,還各有專長;譬如木工能力、良好體力、安慰動物的能力、家庭手工藝等等。下次若有機會到爬蟲館,希望你能從不同的角度去欣賞他們,一定會發現更多令你驚奇的事物。
