The rebirth of Yuejin Harbor
Yuejin Harbor in Tainan's Yanshui was once the commercial and trade hub of southern Taiwan, ranking as the fourth most important port after Tainan, Lukang, and Bangka. However, due to the silting of the river, Yuejin Harbor gradually lost access to the ocean.
Thanks to the relentless efforts of the local community and government, Yuejin Harbor has regained its former glory. This is most evident during the annual Yuejin Lantern Festival, a grand event held during the Spring Festival, which has successfully run for over a decade. Drawing in nearly a million visitors each year, the festival has become a major local celebration. This year, under the theme “Yanshui as an Art Museum,” the festival aims to showcase the abundance of artistic activities in the streets and alleys, fostering local artistic talent and boosting economic development in the area.
