Cycling around Taiwan to overcome physical barriers.
Over the past few years, a cycling craze has swept over Taiwan, and with the aim of getting more intimate with their homeland many people have had the urge to cycle around the island. To celebrate 100 years of Taiwan, the ‘LOHAS Cycling’ activity has been organized. The activity includes 25 riders with physical disabilities, each of whom has been supplied with a specially designed ‘hand cycle’and will together with the other riders embark on the 13-day route covering 1000km.
The group with physical disabilities began training a few months ago and everyone participating is extremely excited about the prospect of cycling around Taiwan. People with physical disabilities face a great deal of inconvenience in their everyday lives, and in this 13-day cycling challenge, they will be forced to overcome not just their own physical and mental barriers, but many other difficulties brought about by a lack of proper disabled facilities in Taiwan.
