We want fresh air, not a crematorium complex!
Close to 3000 residents from New Taipei City districts of Sanxia and Tucheng took to the streets in protest over New Taipei City Government’s plans to build a crematorium complex in the area. Residents of the area believe that in recent years Sanxia District has been turned into a “telecommunications satellite receiver city”. The area already possesses a crematorium complex and with such a concentrated population the people believe the government is acting underhand with this latest project. It is felt that for the government to propose such a plan without adequately informing or communicating with local residents is absolutely unacceptable; the plan has the potential to destroy Sanxia’s “City of Culture” image. Protestors expressed their strong determination to resist this development plan, and vowed that should the government fail to provide an acceptable response, protests are set to continue.
